November is Lung cancer awareness month, and we encourage everyone to learn about the signs and symptoms, screening guidelines and treatment options for lung cancer, as well as support for cancer patients and their families and caregivers.
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women but is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States. The risk of developing lung cancer is highest in smokers, but some people who do not smoke may also develop lung cancer.
Lung Cancer Screenings:
The goal of lung cancer screening is to detect lung cancer before any symptoms occur. This is when treatment will be the most successful. Early detection of lung cancer can help prevent death. Your doctor can determine if lung cancer screening is right for you. Many risk factors may make you a candidate, the biggest risk factor being smoking. Other risk factors include a personal or family history of cancer or a history of COPD or Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Lung Cancer Treatments:
Lung Cancer is very often treated with more than one type of treatment. The treatment may include Surgery, Radiation Therapy, Ablation, Chemotherapy, and Immunotherapy.
